Delete Request

My name is Amy Ravelo and I'm an addict.

I hate to admit it, but I like many others, have an obsession with social media - Facebook to be exact. I love the quick access that I have to visiting my friends and family without having to jump on a plane. I can visit their pages such as my cousin, Em. I haven't gotten to meet her beautiful babies yet, but have the opportunity to see them on her page everyday and get to know them through her photos, status updates, etc. But I'm beginning to notice the downside to such open sources like Facebook. And I guess I can't blame anyone but myself because I'm the one who clicked on the "Confirm Friend" when those friend requests popped up.

I think everyone can admit that they've approved a friend request even though they wouldn't really consider that person a friend under any other circumstance. And I don't mean for that to sound harsh, but it really is reality. We all want to have friends, be liked and feel like we're a part of other people's lives. But what I have found is that some of those friends who I have approved in the past are quickly showing me why I should have clicked on "Delete request." I have seen people blatantly lie about things as stupid as their workouts, their resources of information, and just complete two-faced idiocy.

So, I am perplexed by the desire for those to use the social media to create a false identity and one in which doesn't reflect who they are at all?! As well as those who use it as a means of self flattery - come on now, do you really think people can't see through your self portrait? So instead of brooding, I have decided to take control and utilize the "Delete request" when warranted. And maybe I should spend a little less time on Facebook? Nah......
